Dear Gurus,
Many thanks for the help related to taming my POP3 incoming mail connection. I
can now retrieve my mails from the ISP using fetchmail.
However, sending mails proves to be more difficult. The root of the problem, to
my mind, is that:
- I have one user id at home and another at my ISP
- my home PC has no authorized domain- and hostname
- my exim installation is slightly out of tune
As a result, my mail going out to the ISP mailhost via SMTP with return address
x@y, where x is my internal user id, and y is my host's unqualified internal
name, either:
- gets rejected by the receiving host that says "Sender x@y must exist"
(apparently, I don't ;-), or
- gets delivered as from x@???, where z is the fully qualified domain
name of the eventual *receiving* host; this screws up the Reply
facility, etc.
I'm not sure whether I can trick exim into doing something for me in this case,
or my ISP should be prodded into action.
Could you enlighten me please?
Best regards.
Alexander
