[Exim] problems with mail frozen

As soon as I put an Exim forward file in my home directory, I started getting
errors in my Exim log about my mail directory (/var/spool/mail/pollywog)
having wrong mode (chmod 0600). This is not a problem for other users, only
for user "pollywog". I removed the .forward file and now all my mail gets
frozen. What should I do?
