Hi,
When I had a problem like this it turned out to be due to exim attempting
to do auth (?) varification. That can be turned off/reduced with,
rfc1413_query_timeout = 0s (off)
rfc1413_query_timeout = 5s (reduced)
In the main configuration settings section.
