[Exim] Error in .forward filtering

I am attempting to setup a personal .forward file for a new exim 3.03
install. When I send a message to my specified e-mail account, I get an
error in "mainlog" that specifies:

"error in forward file (filtering not enabled)...."

once I execute exim as "sendmail -qf" (to unthaw the message), however, the
message is delivered fine. If anyone has any suggestions on what to check
in regards to this error, I certainly would appreciate any input.
