That's a bug. The current version is RFC 2500, IIRC (a.k.a. STD 1), and it
says that RFC 1413 defines the protocol called IDENT, and there is no
protocol called AUTH (though there is IP-AUTH, POP3-AUTH, IMAP4-AUTH, TOPT-
AUTH, and AUTH-SOCKS).

That's probably because ASSIGNED NUMBERS is not exactly the same as
INTERNET OFFICIAL PROTOCOL STANDARDS. Historical accident, so to speak.
