Subject: [Exim] batched smtp errors
Hi,

I have installed Exim as a relay MTA between the Internet and a uucp
network currently running Smail. Batched smtp is used for transfer in
both ways.

The uucp user is trusted, so that delivery errors are bounced to the
sender instead of the postmaster.

This works well, except when an error occurs at smtp syntax level: for
example an address with a trailing dot <foo@???.> when the
strip_trailing_dot is false. In that case, the following error is sent
to the postmaster, whatever the trusted_users setting is.

---
While reading a batch of messages using the -bS option, the
following error was detected:

rcpt to: foo@???.
501 domain missing or malformed

The message that contained the error was skipped.
Its sender was: <...>
---

The strip_trailing_dot option helps for this case, but some other faulty
addresses pass through smail to exim and should IMHO be bounced back
instead of being thrown away.

Is there something to do about this ?

Thanks a lot for this great piece of software,
