Hi Nathan,

I'd personally hunt down the person who would remove that option. :-)

The "relay-domains-include-local-MX" option is mainly (from what I can
tell) used in an ISP related environment. For instance, I have around
300+ mail servers that customers run on their own IP ranges, in which
I have to do backup mail services for - and that's mail servers, not
domains (easily surpassing 1000 domains). [We are a small ISP in
comparison to other guys out there] So therefore having to add
a record in a database for the servers to query to see if relaying is
allowed is a killer in many ways.

The only problem is that it's a lot harder to stop someone in a
foreign range from selecting your server as a backup for them. The
best solution for that was a hack we did here to sendmail (now a while
ago) that checked the lowest MX record's IP address against a listing
of "local" [ie: customer] ranges. [hint hint Phillip! :-) ]

Ciao!
Ross.
