Subject: [Exim] Strange sending problems...
Hello, everyone. Well, here's the short of it: my outgoing mail is not being
delivered. I am almost positive that this was working only a few days ago.
I am not all that familiar with the exim log syntax, though it's pretty clear
that stuff is not being correctly sent out. Since I have not made any
significant changes to my local setup, the problem may be on the server side.
The problem with that is I am able to grab my messages using fetchmail without
a problem. So, this may not be an exim problem at all. Hopefully, someone
might be able to tell which it is :-)

Anyway, here is some info from the logfiles. Whenever I try to send out a
message, i get something to this effect:

1999-07-22 15:14:50 117PEv-0003Pw-00 ** cmayes@??? R=smarthost
T=re
mote_smtp: retry time not reached for any host after a long failure period

1999-07-22 15:14:50 117PEv-0003Pw-00 Frozen (delivery error message)

and here is the most recent activity logged (including sample message):

Could someone interpret this for me? It seems to be having trouble connecting
to the smtp port on the mailandnews server. Does that sound about right? I
did a portscan on the server to see if it would tell me anything. Here are
the lines for the pop3 (which fetchmail uses) and the smtp port:

Port State Protocol Service
25 filtered tcp smtp
106 open tcp pop3pw
110 open tcp pop-3

I suppose the filtering might be to blame. Is there a way for me to check
this out? I can, of course, supply more info as needed. I am running exim
version 2.11 on Debian Potato with Kernel 2.2.6.

Thanks,

-Chris
