[Exim] Accessing stored mail

Hello.

I've found many nice contributed configurations that use
private passwd files for virtual domains and store messages
in different directories. But how do end users get this mail
from server? Standard pop servers understand only
/etc/passwd and /var/mail. Can anybody help me?
