I've had another look at it and expiration of entries *is* working using
both null termination for keys and hash format. Basically I was making the
mistake yesterday of using the strings command to look at the data in the
db file and so thought that entries were not being deleted when they were -
the text was still in there and I overlooked the fact that the index to it
had been removed. I must also have been doing this on an inconsistent
basis, using strings to look at the file when using the hash/null version
of drac, and db_dump when using the vanilla version. Whoops.

However, something like dbmnz would be very welcome - anything that reduces
the amount of my hacked code that has to go into a production service has
got to be a blessing both for application robustness and maintainability.

I am yet to hear back from the writer of drac - will keep you posted.
