I am not at all surprised by that, but back to the real question...

I few weeks back there was a great deal of discussion about possible
causes (and fixes) of "Connection timed out after end of data".

Someone point out to me that there are some broken MTAs out there that
will do this when they get data with ASCII null bytes in them. The
easiest solution is to not send things to them with ASCII NULs in it.

Note that some mail clients from a software house based in the Pacific
Northwest will somehow get NULs in message bodies when a text file is
included during message composition.
