It looks like the online version and the pdf version of the Exim
Specification aren't quite the same. The PDF version has Chapter 9
'String Expansions'. The online HTML version has the PDF chapter 9
running together with Chapter 8.
The paragraph starting with "Expanded strings are copied verbatim" below
"
http://www.exim.org/exim-html-3.00/doc/html/spec_8.html#SEC162" is
in chapter 9 in the pdf.
Insert this above that paragraph and it looks like you'll have the whole
chapter.
9. String expansions
A number of configuration strings are expanded before use. Some of them
are expanded every time they are used; others are expanded only once.
