I do domainaliasing this way:

# Map one domain to another domain.
#
d_domainalias:
  driver                = smartuser
  domains               = dbm;/var/exim/etc/domainaliases.db
  new_address           = "${local_part}@${lookup {$domain} dbm \
                                {/var/exim/etc/domainaliases.db} {$value} fail }"
