[EXIM] received protocol setting

Logged in as root, I'm invoking exim with :

exim -d9 -bS -oMr myprotocol < bsmtpfile

debug_print = "$received_protocol" for the router in question
still displays "local-bsmtp". Any ideas why $received_protocol is not
set to "myprotocol" ?

(Exim 2.12, btw)
