I would guess that either:-
- your system is doing something strange with UIDs (ie the
setuid/seteuid
calls do not work as exim expects
- you have changed the UID that exim runs under and there are old
files
owned by the previous UID in the exim directories
- someone has removed the setuid bit off the exim binary
- someone has changed the permissions on the exim directories/files
- you are running exim using an NFS spool as root
However without a more detailed description of the problem and the
environment - system, OS type and version and exim version - giving
anything better than a guess is difficult.
