I'm not using Linux, but our Linux guys gave me the following
instructions how to increase open file limit on a running system:
| echo 4096 > /proc/sys/fs/file-max
| echo 12288 > /proc/sys/fs/inode-max
| echo 300 400 500 > /proc/sys/vm/freepages
