Some people (i.e. me) prefer to keep the mail log separate from
everything else. After all, if your mail log is tens of megabytes a day,
it would be very hard to spot anything else in among it.

I also wanted to have a standard format for log lines, for use by eximon
and eximstats. I notice that on Solaris 2.5 syslog timestamps are of the
form "Dec 23 02:17:06" which isn't good enough for me.

Somebody is now going to tell me that syslog allows you to separate
things off into separate files. (Is it standard on all versions of
Unix?) Well, I just wasn't familiar with syslog when I started (and
still am not) and what I did was to copy the way smail did things,
except that I invented a separate rejectlog.
