I can confirm that Exim talks to Exchange and to the cc:Mail SMTP Gateway.
This, mind you, is just within our organization. If I did some analysis
of the "comment" string in our logs (i.e. the format of Sendmail's "250 OK
...." message is well known), I could probably come up with a much longer
list.
It may be easier (for me, probably not for you) that I am not aware of any
mailers with which Exim has problems communicating.
