Hello
I'm puzzled by what is going on here. Five days ago (the things that
happen when one goes away for a long weekend! 8-) this character
_claiming to be_ AntiMicrosoft@??? seems to have spammed us with
a lot of mail addressed to an unknown username here (which actually
didn't come from haha.com at all, of course). I'm now seeing things
like the following in the mainlog:
1998-11-24 07:01:01 0zgVWB-0006Lg-00 == AntiMicrosoft@??? \
T=remote_smtp defer (0): SMTP error from remote mailer after MAIL FROM: \
<> SIZE=2457: host
www.haha.com [192.41.4.149]: 451 SMTP-MAIL: \
cannot fork: Resource temporarily unavailable

In my configure file I have got queue_smtp set, and some reasonable
retry times, but, looking at the times of the log lines, it looks as
if this failure is _not_ causing Exim to look at the re-try time, so
the message is being picked up by every queue-runner. I imagine that
the spammer is trying to do a DOS attack on haha.com and unfortunately
is probably succeeding, as well as filling up my log files.
My question is: why isn't the 451 failure causing Exim to re-try the
message at the times I've specified? If this ought to be obvious from
the documentation, sorry, there is a network problem between here and
the exim.org web site so I am having difficulty reading the
documentation at the moment.
Exim version 2.05 under FreeBSD 2.2.6-RELEASE by the way.
Gyan.
