I have placed a testing version of Exim in
ftp://ftp.cus.cam.ac.uk/pub/software/programs/exim/Testing/exim-testing-2.053.tar.gz
because it contains a number of features some people have been waiting
for, so it would be useful to have it tested. All changes are documented
in doc/ChangeLog and doc/NewStuff, *not* in the standard documentation.
Three big things people might like to play with are:
. Support for MBX mailboxes. This is very new and only lightly tested.
Take care to understand the difference between the mailbox format and
the way the mailbox is locked.
. Support for VERP (variable envelope return paths). This is done by a
transport option called return_path, which permits the rewriting of
return paths at transport time. The expansion string must contain
suitable conditions to ensure that only those paths you want to
rewrite are changed.
. Embedded Perl support.
In addition I have "picked some of the low apples" from the Wish List -
that is, I have implemented a number of the smaller items, so
altogether there has been quite a lot of functional change since 2.05.
Finally, note that the way the makefile works has been revised to avoid
the use of nested "make" calls on newly-created makefiles which were
causing problems on some systems.
