[EXIM] mail bouncing

I am curious about something. In my exim configuration, I have sender_reject
set and it works in the sense that unless I have an AOL user in an exempt list,
any mail from AOL addresses is rejected. It does not really "bounce" back to
the sender, since I am on a dialup and I use Fetchmail to get mail for my
domain. Fetchmail then delivers it to Exim.

Since the rejected mail cannot bounce in the usual way, what exactly happens to
it?
