255 decimal = 11111111 binary

So a subnet mask of:

255.255.255.0 = 11111111.11111111.11111111.00000000 = /24
255.255.0.0 = 11111111.11111111.00000000.00000000 = /16
255.255.255.192 = 11111111.11111111.11111111.11000000 = /26
255.255.255.255 = 11111111.11111111.11111111.11111111 = /32
