[EXIM] variable expanding in the alias files?

Hello,

Seems I'm missing something important, because my alias file don't feel to
expand valiables. I have like

autoreply:      |/usr/local/bin/autoreply ${reply_address} ${local_part}

but seems it gets them as they are...

btw is this the best way to create an automatic information providing
email address?
