I'd sent a lot more than this in my message, but the example I'd pasted
had a dot in the first column; I guess some MTA somewhere interpreted that
as EOD. Ouch.
Here's my message again, now without the dot:
We have a NetBSD 1.3 box here ("leobsd"), with sendmail 8.8.8.
I did this:
$ sendmail -t paul@???
To: paul@???
Subject: test
bla
"dot" :-)

The roundabout routing for the wau.mis.ah.nl address is because leobsd
has ahns.mis.ah.nl as smarthost, and waubel.wau.mis.ah.nl is the MX host
for the wau.mis.ah.nl as far as ahns is concerned (don't ask).
*.mis.ah.nl is behind a firewall.
I'm not sure exactly how to interpret sendmail's behaviour, but in short
both addresses receive mail.
