OK, so it appears that it is just the one very special case of
From: login-name
when the login-name is that of the calling user, with *nothing* else on
the line, that is handled differently.
This strikes me as a typical one-off, special-case fudge. However, if
it is something that is wanted, I'll consider how to get Exim to do it,
either by default or as a result of setting some option.
