On my setup (server running solaris 2.5 and exim 1.61, clients running
Solaris 2.5 or 2.5.1, mail spool nfs mounted from server) mail
deliveries get deferred (with error local_delivery transport deferred:
failed to lock mailbox /var/mail/username (fcntl) ) if username is
running mailtool and the "network-aware file locking" box is ticked. If
it is not ticked, deliveries succeed as normal.
I vaguely remember looking at this some time ago - it was affecting
some users and not others - and I think the default value of this
parameter changed at some release of the OS - or maybe it was different
in mailtool and dtmail - but I cant remember the details...
