Subject: domain added to fully qualified addresses
Hello

I have been using exim for a few months as a local mailer only, on
some computers and I am very satified with it.

Then, I started some tests to replace our pp mail hub by exim,
during the summer.

(BTW a setting allowing only defined users to send mail outside unifr.ch
is a key feature that we need. I must have a look on smartuser
to do that, until Mr Hazel has enough time to add this in exim :-) )

I upgraded to 1.73 a week ago... and I am rather troubled.

[In the following I modified or hid some real names or IP addresses.]

Note : the test computer that is mx for say edut.ch
is it-self defined only in unifr.ch (hostname of the form xxx.unifr.ch)

My problem is that the unifr.ch domain (that doesn't appear anywhere
in the configure file) is added to each recipient address (if it is not
edut.ch)

exim runs on a Sun, Solaris 2.5.1.

here is an example :
  exim -v -d9 -bt bruno.vuillemin@???
    Exim version 1.73 debug level set to 9
    probably ndbm
        address bruno.vuillemin@???
      local_part=bruno.vuillemin domain=cern.ch local=0
    routing bruno.vuillemin@???, domain cern.ch
    lookuphost_mx router called for bruno.vuillemin@???: dns lookup:
route_domain = cern.ch
    DNS lookup of cern.ch (MX) succeeded
    Actual local interface address is 127.0.0.1
    Actual local interface address is 134.21.y.zzz
(1)    fully qualified name = cern.ch.unifr.ch
    host_find_bydns yield = HOST_FOUND (2); returned hosts:
(2)      swifr9.unifr.ch 134.21.1.5 10 1056
    lookuphost_mx router succeeded
    rewriting after lookuphost_mx router
    routed by lookuphost_mx router:
      deliver to bruno.vuillemin@???
      transport: remote_smtp
      host swifr9.unifr.ch [134.21.1.5] MX=10
    bruno.vuillemin@???
      remote delivery to bruno.vuillemin@???
      router = lookuphost_mx, transport = remote_smtp
      host swifr9.unifr.ch [134.21.1.5] MX=10
    search_tidyup called
    #
----------------
(1) why is unifr.ch added ?
(2) this is indeed the mx for unifr.ch, that's coherent ... at least.

There is no rewriting rule that applies in this case.

Don't you have any idea on what I am doing wrong ?
Except "local_domain=edut.ch" most of the configure file is in the
default state.

Last minute : I removed "local_domain=edut.ch" (it's a comment now)
the behaviour is the same....

Thanks
