They assume unique keys and can therefore use dbm files. There is one
small wrinkle in handling partial domain lookups, but that is done using
multiple lookups, each with a unique key constructed by chopping down
the original.

It is clear that anything other than linear text searching is going to
need a specially-munged data file.
