Ouch.

I'm quite fond of that 'principle of least surprise' myself. I feel that a
shellpipe director is probably the answer if it is thought to be necessary to
support this behaviour. I would rather not have to worry about the meaning of
shell meta-chars - something that has always bothered me about sendmail.
