Asunto: Accepting huge numbers of messages after downtime - suggestion
While watching the previously mentioned mail machine accept mail that's
been sitting on various MX hosts, it seems that the biggest bottleneck
is the input directory access, as the input directory size on that
machine is now 400k. This machine is currently running smail 3.2, and
the time to update the directory after accepting and then deleting the
incoming files is definately slowing things down. So, I suggest that
possibly hashing the incoming files into subdirectories somehow would
speed things up on accepting mail.
