How are you getting load average for Linux??
The easy way requiring no privs is to open /proc/loadavg and read one line
from it.

[root@testit nigel]# cat /proc/loadavg
0.30 0.23 0.19 2/34 6083

The values are in order
    3 load average values like uptime (ie over 1, 5, 15 minutes)
    number running tasks/total number tasks
    last used pid


Vast amounts of other data are available in /proc
