PCRE2 does indeed target this. It sets group 1 in all three cases, as does
Perl. It is now nearly 4 years since PCRE2 was released and I'm afraid I don't
think this is sufficiently important for me to spent time trying to figure out
what's going on in PCRE1 (whose details I have by now completely forgotten).
Even if I did, I suspect it would hard/impossible to fix easily (and I'm not
doing anything other than straightforward bugfixes in PCRE1 now). Sorry about
that, but thanks for the reports.
