Folks

I'm writing this having typed out a number of replies to various threads
today, and then deleted them before sending.

There have been too many emails over the last 48 hours which made
childish observations, cast aspersions at individuals, and used
belittling vernacular about various aspects of questions or answers on
the list.

You may have opinions about specific software vendors, pieces of
software, or configurations; if they are not pertinent to the technical
discussion at hand (which is what this mailing list is for) then keep
them to yourself.

To tar every single person who uses a specific system or product with a
dismissive nickname isn't very helpful (nor is berating those who are
trying to pin down relevant information to answer a question),
especially when they are unlikely to actually have a choice.
Instead of berating them for the system they use, educate. If they annoy
you, take a deep breath and realise that not everyone might have the
freedom of choice or technical ability to make their own choices
regarding the systems they use.

In short, have some common decency. Treat others as you would wish to be
treated yourself.
