Pardon me for having a good old laugh about this now :-D

So we've gone from a single-barrel to a double-barrel way of being able to blow
your own feet off.

I'm not willing to accept either of these requests (as I have previously
explained). What next - a switch to mangle 2xx responses?

As I already wrote, RFC5321 states that the codes should be honoured and the
text informational. You're asking for a massive change to that trust model.
