Per query option would be nicer IMO. You once could want ascii data, once utf8
and once iso8859-2 in your exim config.
There is:
${lookup mysql{servers=master; UPDATE ...} }
already so:
${lookup mysql{names=utf8; UPDATE .... } }
that would do 2 queries for that:
SET NAMES utf8;
UPDATE ...
