passwd.client is not used in the default configuration. A file named
like that is used by some distributors to hold the file that has the
credentials that exim uses when it authenticates to a smarthost as a
client via SMTP AUTH.

So you will probably find it documented in your distribution specific
docs.

Please do not start topics by replying to a message you found on the
list. It breaks threading and makes your message seen by less people.
This goes especially when you reply to a digest and do not even change
the subject.
