I thought that the use of a regular expression required a circumflex at
the beginning of the line? I'm not sure what '(^?)' does - 'may or may
not be the beginning of the line/expression'? Either way shouldn't the
line in the file be:

^(^?)spam@spam\.tld$ : reason-xx
