You don't even HAVE to use the vexim code - just the configuration
information for how you configure exim / pop / imap is enough. Vexim
just makes managing easier.
As for webmail, that is completely independant of Exim. In
fact, there is no special setup needed for webmail AT ALL since it just
talks to the local imap server anyway. I use a stock debian squirrelmail
with my setup that required no local customization to work (of course I
have made local customizations...)
In addition to the above, google for "virtual domains exim" - there are
MANY examples for exim4. Google is your friend. Don't be so afraid of
using it.
If youy continue to use the Debian version of Exim, please note that
debian does things different. See the README.Debian* files in the
/usr/share/doc/exim* directories. You may find more debian specific
help on the debian specific mailing lists (debian-users or debian-isp).
Also note that the current default for stable (Sarge) is Exim4 for new
installs. Exim4 is "different enough" that you are better off installing
new and NOT doing an upgrade by migrating your old config files.
Nobody is forcing you to upgrade to Exim4. You only hurt yourself by
sticking to Exim3.
