Tárgy: RE: [exim] Strange problem with Exim & request verify
Fred -

I did some searching and it seems that the MUA (Outlook in my case) isn't at
fault. I did testing with various email accounts all on the same server and
found the issue pertaining to only some of the accounts. Inside of Outlook
I have 5 SMTP/POP3 accounts setup to be checked. Four of these are on my
local server of which is running Exim, and the other account is located on
my dsl ISP's server. As I mentioned previously, all SMTP Port 25 traffic is
being filtered by the ISP to ONLY GOTO THEIR SMTP SERVER.

So far I've established that using my ISP's pop3 account allows me to send
mail to a mailing list located on my server with Exim & Majordomo. That
works without a problem. Upon researching earlier, one of the other POP3
accounts inside Outlook, which has the same domain name as the mailing list
(savelostriver.org), allows me to send mail to the list@???
mailing list just fine as well. This leaves 3 other pop3 accounts all
located on the same server as the mailing list, but all three are unable to
send to the mailing list. The same error message comes back stating:

<list@???>: host mail.savelostriver.org[69.64.171.88] said:
    550-Verification failed for <user@???> 550 Sender verify
failed (in reply to RCPT TO command)

What I did notice in those three accounts was a similar pattern of how each
account was setup. Due to the fact that the @modemnet.net email is being
handled by Everyone.net mailing service, MX records point to Everyone.net
for the @modemnet.net domain. Mail is then forwarded from the everyone.net
service to corresponding @modemnet.org accounts located on the local server.
In essence the process looks like this:

Incoming Mail -> user@??? (An ailias/forwarder on Everyone.net) ->
user@??? (local server)
Outgoing Mail -> smtp.citlink.net (ISP filter) -> list@???
(destination)

Also my Outlook account setup looks like the following:

Display Name: My Full Name
Display Email: user@???
Incoming Server: mail.modemnet.org
Outgoing Server: smtp.citlink.net
POP Username: user@???
Password: *********
Organization: my company
Reply Email: user@???

Mind you this setup DID work fully in Exim 4.34 back in October, but once I
had Exim 4.43 installed then this stopped working. Also my question is, is
Exim rejecting the email because of the email being forwarded from the
Everyone.net service first to the local server second? Or am I totally
missing something here.

The SMTP envelope sender is determined by the initiating SMTP client, which
is your MUA (OutLook, you said) in your case.

I am not familiar with OutLook, but I assume the settings you were showing
are from it. I further assumed that the invalid value you showed as the
"return address" setting affects the SMTP envelope, because it would explain
the rejection message you got.

If my assumptions are correct, the problem is in your OutLook settings,
which would be a local PC issue.
