If you installed the FreeBSD port for exim, then you may find
that you actually installed "exiscan" (a scanning version of
exim) which will include support for SpamAssassin.

Read
    /usr/local/share/doc/exim/POST-INSTALL-NOTES
for more info.


Basically, there are powerful enhancements to the exim ACL system
to scan e-mails (using SA and/or virus-scanner) at DATA time and
hence to reject before accepting (and later bouncing) spam.
