Try using the debug mode and you will see it walk through your
configuration and should see the error.
exim -d+expand -bh YOURSERVERIP
and just use Smtp commands to fill in the info and see what you get....
helo YOURSERVERS_HELO_NAME
mail from: guy@???
rcpt to: guy@???
...
