In 4.20, message should work for "defer" (judging from my reading of the
code). However, I have to admit that the handling of messages from ACLs
is in rather a mess, because it has been hacked around rather a lot
since I first wrote it. There is even a comment in the code suggesting
that it should be re-implemented one day...
