He mentions Debian but no mention of the LDAP type or version.

With an Openldap 2.1.x (which Frederic will definitely *not* be using)
source install, his header files will be in /usr/local/include. There is
no such directory on my RH machine as /usr local/ldap - but who knows
with Debian?.

Why in the name of all that's sweet not do a find for the header files?
That is, if the Debian install includes ldap header files at all.
