Real life example:

Director:

customers:
domains = "lsearch;/etc/mail/virtual-domains"
driver = smartuser
condition = ${if exists{${extract{4}{:}{${lookup{$local_part}dbm{/etc/mail/auto/passwd}{$value}}}}}{yes}{no}}
transport = customers

Transport:

customers:
  driver = appendfile
  use_fcntl_lock = true
  group = nogroup
  file = "${extract{4}{:} \
    {${lookup{$local_part}dbm{/etc/mail/auto/passwd}{$value}}}}/mbox"
  user = "${extract{3}{:} \
    {${lookup{$local_part}dbm{/etc/mail/auto/passwd}{$value}}}}"

Format /etc/mail/auto/passwd - USER:PASS:UID:HOME, USER - lookup key.
