One of the problems with Washington IMAP's MBX is that it forces you into
a specific model of INBOX usage. It copies your INBOX into a local INBOX
in your home directory. It has this inbuilt folder model for other formats
of mailbox as well e.g. mbox.

I know some sites implement this model of INBOX, emptying it from the
"/var/mail" area, whereas others want the INBOX and all the other user
FOLDERs in the "/var/mail" area. We currently use the INBOX in the
"var/mail" area and folders in the user's home directory or wherever the
user's mail client directs them to be.

I know this is not really an EXIM matter but it is clear from the other
mail that these areas are of concern to many people. It does influence the
usage of EXIM filters when users sort mail on delivery into various
folders rather than waiting on their client when it starts up.

Messaging Direct's M-Store is a complete black box approach for INBOXes
and folders using LMTP to inject messages into it. We looked at it earlier
in the summer but did not feel brave enough to commit to this model.

I would be interested in what models peole use and especially why? I am
already thinking of next summer's changes and the "folder model" is on the
list.
