Subject: Blocked mail from failed reverse
A week ago I upgraded from 1.62 to 1.71. The consequence is that I'm now
facing a barrage of mail like...

"A common robot that sends me mail (it should) is "support@???". It
usually sends me daily updates and news alerts. I've gotten nothing from
them since last week. Also I usually get information from other places
because I'm always sending questions to Accutrade, Ameritrade, Waterhouse,
and a bunch of strange "news" sources. I haven't received any mail from
anyone except you, a friend on olympus.net, and a returned message from
olympus.net since last Friday!"

The consequence is that my work has now shifted to explaining the reverse
name issue to other sites as well as their customers and mine. This is a
terrific burden.

The paucity of posts from others about this matter leads me to believe that
I'm missing something basic.
My configuration has...
sender_verify = true
sender_verify_fixup = true

It does not appear that the various 'sender-accept' lists are appropriate
for disabling reverse name rejects, so how do I turn off rejecting mail
because of reverse host lookup failure?

The size of my reject log file tripled since installing 1.71 and now I have
to decide whether to persist in reforming the Internet and face desertion
of frustrated customers or back up to 1.62. If I decide to persist, which
part of smtp_in.c should I patch to expand "554 SMTP service not available"
to something like "554 SMTP not available because sender reverse host
lookup failed"?

Apart from this problem, I am very grateful for Exim.

Regards,
Ned
